Instruments: Double Bass Music

I began teaching in college 6 years ago and have helped students successfully prepare for and win ensemble auditions at the college level. For the double bass, perhaps the most athletic instrument, I know it is imperative to focus on proper posture and technique to avoid injury. This bodily awareness (rooted in years of yoga practice) is a central part of my teaching philosophy. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, I am a person that's inspired by music, and the trumpet itself. In 2016, I graduated from Berklee College of Music, with a Bachelor or Music in Trumpet Performance. I have always inspired to perform for a living, and to travel doing so. The experiences that I have gained while in college were incredible, with receiving amazing opportunities as well, with one example performing a tribute for Harry Belafonte, who came on stage to perform We Are The World with us. I am passionate about both teaching and performing. I am Suzuki certified and take Shin’ichi Suzuki's philosophy to heart. I believe that, by taking flute lessons, everyone can learn confidence, discipline, and the joy of self-expression through music. I offer both Suzuki and traditional flute lessons and believe that it is my job as an educator to tailor my teaching style to the varying needs, interests and goals of each individual student. The lesson starts with Awareness Through Movement (ATM) applying the Feldenkrais Method to get the student in a state where the mind-body learns new possibilitites of movement, making the body feel more comfortable and expanded. It is a first "tuning" before working directly with the sounding voice. Breathing excercises and vocal technique are to continue. I love sharing the joys of music with others! I graduate from Marywood University in January 2017 with a Bachelors degree in Music Therapy. I took private vocal lessons starting when I was 14 years old. I was a part for my colleges chamber choir and I went on tour with them and performed throughout the US and Canada. My teaching style is versatile but with distinct steps. The first step is exposition, the second is reason and the third is connection. There is something so rewarding for me but more importantly for the student when their face opens, they say (and realize): "Oh! I get it...."
