My beginner students use the Essential Elements book. With that book, you can learn fundamentals in trumpet technique as well as counting. For all other students, I use the Herbert L. Clarke Technical Studies book and selections from the Arban's Conservatory Method. We cover a lot of etudes and techniques from the Arban's book. I will help my students make their own unique musical goals and gradually achieve them through a kind and loving teaching approach. I teach music the same way language is learned, as both involve learning to listen, speak, write, and read. I start students off with the skill of listening as I demonstrate how the instrument is played, and then move them into "speaking" by guiding them in the basics of technique that will allow them to begin producing basic sounds. As the student learns to create original musical ideas, I help them learn how to write them down in musical notation, which ultimately serves their ability to read music. Read More

I have high expectations in y studio, but I make it clear that students will progress at different speeds and that’s okay. Every week I give a set of warm-ups and exercises to focus on and expect students to practice so we can hone them when we’re together, but I’ll never ask a student to do something they’re not comfortable or familiar with - if ever there’s a question I’m there to answer or demonstrate. While I was at college, I became interested in Music Therapy. As part of the curriculum for Music Therapy, I also studied guitar and piano.
