I am a fast paced, energetic, positive-reinforcement kind of teacher. I like lessons to be fun and productive no matter the ability level. It is my belief that EVERYONE can sing, you just have to practice. A typical lesson involves a 10-15 minute warm-up, depending on the length of the lesson. That is followed by working on the songs that a student has prepared for the week. I like to work on a variety of songs to prevent boredom and frustration if a song is proving to be difficult on a particular day. Read More

I always start off my very first lesson, (or a very long time since seeing that student) with a piece of their choice to showcase their ability and level of playing and another I hand them to sight read. That way I can assign the right material at their playing level and start letting them know what books they will need to buy for future lessons. When i have heard them play, I go through my gallery of music and pull out tonal, technical, and everything in between to start outlining what we will be working on for months. Read More

For the beginning students, I use Alfred's Basic Step by Step books. This covers the following: 1) Explains how piano produces sound 2) Teaches notes on keyboard and in a notebook 3) Focuses on ability to learn the rhythm, pitch and articulation 4) Introduces solo repertoire from different styles of music I want to teach my student to love music. Each student is at a different level, and therefore requires different teaching methods. I like to implement the Hanon exercises for scales and warm-ups, also focusing on things like scales and arpeggios. For the guitar, I like to incorporate these concepts with chordal exercises as well, such as playing progressions to let the student's fingers grow accustomed to their forms. I then let the student tell me what his or her focus is, such as theoretical, classical, or popular. Read More

Though I am primarily a guitar and bass player, I am also an experienced electronic music producer and recording artist. Read More

My philosophy is, music is fun! I keep lessons light and friendly. I encourage questions. If a student doesn't understand a concept, I can probably describe it in a few different ways. but to save time, ask questions! I believe in honest praise and warm criticism. There are no bad vibes in my studio! Read More
