I have been professionally playing drums for almost 15 years and teaching professionally for 10. I have toured the country opening up for major label bands and artists. I have played drums for numerous bands and artists including Grammy winning and nominated artists for Audiomack's Trap Symphony. For beginning students, I prefer to use the Alfred's Basic Piano Course books. Once the student gets down the fundamentals and becomes more technically proficient, I introduce solo repertoire and get them started with some fun and musical etudes to improve finger dexterity. I began playing by ear at age 5. I have perfect pitch and was able to play songs I heard after one hearing by age 6. I made my first record at age 16 and began to perform professionally. I attended Hofstra University and received a BS in Music Theory and Composition. I current am an MA candidate at Queens College Aaron Copeland Scool of Music. The best lesson I learned before attending college, my trumpet teacher taught me, "If you sound good while practicing, you're not really practicing", which I make sure to mention multiple times. I never try to overload my students with too much material, but instead try to understand what they would like to learn, and develop lessons and exercises from that. The goal I aim for is that the student feels the desire to complete individual practice tasks, fueled with positivity. I love seeing a student develop a personal drive for the music (or technique) they are learning. The way I approach this is getting the student to relate what they learn in bass lessons with everyday thinking, choices and activities they do outside the practice room. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, while also gently pushing them to take their abilities to the next level when I see that they are ready to.
