For beginning students, I typically will start them on a method book such as The Yamaha series, and start them on the basic pedagogy of the clarinet and saxophone,ie; putting the instrument together, putting the reed on the mouthpiece, setting the embouchure, etc. I will emphasize the importance of practicing; beginners, 5 times a week for 20 minutes, so they can succeed in learning their instrument. My favorite piano method book for children is the Bastien Piano Basics Series. Alternately, I sometimes use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures. For very young children (3-6) "My First Piano Adventure," a Faber publication, is my book of choice. For adults, I usually use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, though sometimes I skip method books and play pieces picked by the student. My love of teaching started when I was a counselor at a musical summer enrichment program back in 2020. I got to work with so many young performers with varying skill levels and aided them in discovering their voice and confidence. Since then, I have begun my own private vocal coaching business and became a singing/musical theatre teacher at All Stars Dance Center in Westfield, MA.
