For beginner students, I like to use the Faber books or the Thompson method for piano. I also encourage students of all ages to share what they enjoy listening to and incorporate songs they enjoy as early as possible. As students progress I get into more in depth concepts in music theory and improvisation, to provide a foundation in the language of contemporary music. As students progress, they can move on to drumset studies.  I can focus on whichever style of music interests the student, or  I can present various styles (Rock, Latin, Funk, Jazz, etc.)  All of the ideas learned in the previous lessons will be applied to the drumset.  Areas covered will include: -Beats (Rock, Swing, Bossa Nova, Samba, 12/8, etc.) -Fills -Soloing -Reading Charts -Time/ Feel -Dynamics I am very patient and flexible.  If there is anything that the student specifically wants to learn or doesn’t want to learn, I’m all ears!  I’m here to teach them whatever they are interested in as well as to introduce them to something they may not have experienced before. I meet with students to see what they know and what they want to learn, and then use books, YouTube videos or tutorials to teach - learn with- students. My teaching style is very laid back and comforting for students to progress at their own pace. I will always remind students to not rush and encourage them to have confidence within themselves. The most important thing for a musician to have is CONFIDENCE!!!!!! It’s important to develop that at a young age because it will make performances easier as they get older. I cater the lessons towards what the student wants while emphasizing the importance of fundamentals and theory. I incorporate songwriting and improvisation into my lessons, as well as songs the student wants to learn. I believe all students should be encouraged to be creative, while still maintaining a strong emphasis on fundamentals, thus leading to the creation of their unique musical style.
