In 2011, I graduated from Howard Payne University with a degree in music education, where I often performed lead roles in production spanning from "Bye, Bye Birdie," to "Gianni Schicchi." I am currently pursuing an advanced degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from UTSA, and am projected to graduate in Spring 2015. Hi, my name is Mike. I am from Boerne, TX and got a degree in Music Marketing from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I played the trumpet in middle school, high school, and it was my primary instrument in college. I have also been playing the percussion, particularly drum set, for 15 years and it is still my favorite thing to do. Before the first lesson I always like to inquire with the student (Parent/Guardian) if the student has taken lessons in the past, in order to better teach, and assign practice material. However, if a student has never taken lessons before, I recommend to young students the Alfred's Basic Piano Lessons Book 1, and for my adult students I will send supplemental materials via email, but also encourage that they purchase in the future, "Essential Piano Repertoire" Level two by Keith Snell. My teaching style is one in which students will feel comfortable, relaxed, and self motivated. I am patient, encouraging, and flexible with my students. They will set short and long range music goals and will have fun practicing their lessons and working to reach their goals. All students are different and will learn at a different pace.
