I have been teaching private piano lessons for about 25 years. Over those years, I have also served as a lower and middle school music teacher. In one position, I created and implemented a piano lab for group piano instruction for grades 4-8. My students have ranged from beginners to advanced, and I have taught children from age 5 through adults in their 80's. Throughout my classroom teaching years, I have always maintained a private studio. Read More

I believe that there is no "cookie-cutter" way to teach music. It is a very creative art-form which calls for room for creativity. My teaching experience dates back to the early 2000s, I began teaching private lessons part time. In 2009, I began teaching for a local performing arts school full-time. Among the accomplishments of my prior students, I have 3 who have graduated and attended Berkeley School of Music in Boston, 1 graduated from New York Film Academy and is working off Broadway, 1 who graduated from Pace University then went on to perform on Broadway and now is performing along side Rod Stewart, I have 2 who are now teaching music, and a number of others who are in college, have graduated, or are recording, writing and/or performing nationally and internationally. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I have given piano lessons on and off as early as ten years ago when I was first starting my undergraduate studies. Through my time at Mansfield University, I studied piano and developed my skills to an advanced level. My studies in Music Theory and Composition at Binghamton University have also aided in my composing skills. My time teaching and accompanying choirs at Binghamton University have given me even more experience in teaching students of differing ages. Read More

My philosophy is a student-first philosophy. I like to cultivate a curriculum around what my student is interested in learning about, whether that be music theory, improvisation, crafting chord progressions and solos, or learning specific songs. I come from a pop/jazz background, and love to work with students on learning songs they loveit keeps the lessons both engaging and educational. Students who are interested in pursuing music in some capacity, or those who wish to improve their chops: I am the teacher for you! Read More

I learned very early on in my teaching experience that every student is different, and the lesson should be personalized to fit their needs. For true beginners, the basics are always established, and are frequently reminded; how to hold the drumstick, how to get the correct motion when striking the drum, and proper playing zones. Stick Control, Alfred's Beginning Drum Set Book, and The All American Drummer are three versatile books that my students will be exposed to, no matter what level of player they are. Read More

Im big on using a metronome for all students and for them having a binder to keep all their papers. I find that if students can get down a sense of rhythm everything than falls into place which is where the meternome comes in. For instance learning a song well get down first the groove or the flow and rhythm of the song and than we work on cleaning up mistakes to make the song more accurate. Read More
