My teaching style is very patient and encouraging and I can tailor my lesson plans to suit each individual student. Although building technique and comfort are extremely important, I find that the most essential aspect of learning an instrument is to study the music that you love, and I'm definitely open to adding a bit of musical theory to every lesson if the student is interested. I don't have just ONE method...because every student has different likes, and different goals, they need personalized lessons. Some enjoy music theory, others prefer to just learn a more basic approach. Since I learned formally (in school/lessons) and informally (by ear, self-taught and playing onstage), I can give students whichever method suits their goals, with as much or as little theory as they are comfortable with. For beginner students, i typically like to work with the tried and true Suzuki books, as well as theory practice with Essential Elements for violin, and the Faber books for pianists. I will begin to introduce solo work as skills build, but we will always be working on something that the student genuinely is interested in. For adults/ intermediate or advanced students i try to find what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep lessons fun and engaging while also slightly challenging to further understanding of technical abilities.
