While students will find that their progress is influenced by their practice habits, it's also my goal to make clear what effective practice looks like, what kinds of questions they might ask to figure things out, and how to be patient with themselves. While the easy answer is, "We'll begin with the fundamentals," the more puzzling question and answer is, "How can I apply fundamentals in a meaningful way to the student to ensure that they stay engaged, interested, and focused?" It was very hard to complete the degree but I ended up being the first student in my class to officially pass the oral thesis and attain the degree. Through my educational and teaching experiences, I have learned a variety of rehearsal techniques and assessments that benefit student learning, as well as completed advanced/supplementary classes in conducting, all secondary instruments, and technology in music. I began teaching to some degree in middle school. I would help the school guitar teacher with beginner and advanced guitar during lunch. Most of my responsibility was reinforcing the lessons and practicing alongside individual students who were struggling. While attending high school, I was the only guitarist for the school band and got requests for private lessons from my peers, which I gladly accepted.
