I've been teaching and leading sectionals for four years now, and have taught lessons on both fiddle and voice! It's an honor to be able to spread the love of music to students, as music has changed my life. Consistent practice is important, but so is finding what the student loves to practice. I try to maintain organization and give my students goals to accomplish. In this, I aim to teach them how to create these goals for themselves, giving them a say in what they choose to work on. I will push a student in whichever direction they are aiming for. I maintain an attitude of positivity and try to encourage my students as much as possible. I completed my bachelor's in music performance at the University of Wyoming in 2014, and have just completed my first semester as a Master's student in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. With most beggining students I use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements 2000. For intermediate students I find the Rubank methods move at a faster pace and put a larger emphases on scales. For beginning students, when students are ready I will introduce an easy solo book. In most cases I use Belwin Master Solos or an Essential Elements supplement depending on the interests of the student. For students interested in learning jazz or other forms of improvisation, I would use Hal Leonard's "How to Play from a Real Book" in combination with the Hal Leonard or Aebersold play-along series.
