My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 40 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 20 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy their instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

For beginning piano students, I typically start with Faber's Piano Adventures. I also use these books as a foundation for intermediate students. After students have grasped the basics, I will talk with them to determine their interest in different musical styles and songs. I will then add in supplementary material to go alongside the Piano Adventures books to give them a broader range of musical ability. Violin lessons are a combination of the Suzuki Method and Strings Builders. Read More

I am an instructor who is passionate and motivated about both music and teaching. While working on a degree in Psychology at Grand Valley State University in Michigan, I also studied music theory and other musical topics. I began playing bass guitar around 1978 and have played in bands, done session work and given music lessons in Michigan and the midwest ever since. I enrolled in and intensive program for bass guitar at the Players School of music where I studied performance, music theory and received private instruction from Jeff Berlin. Read More

My instruction follows a broad method of teaching technique as well as musicality. I use method books such as Arbans, Clarke, Frink, Schlossberg, Concone, as well as several etude books like the Voxman series, Charlier, and others. Depending on the student's knowledge, I can teach theory concepts so the student can better understand the broad aspects of composition and improvisation. My main focuses are: rhythm, tone, playing technique, history, range, musicality with a broad library of different approaches to teaching through applied lessons. Read More

I’m a friendly and kind teacher, and I love sharing my love of Music with students both young and old. I studied at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London before going to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester at 18. As a student I began working as a freelance bassoonist, around the UK. I spent a good deal of time playing in the orchestra for choirs and amateur operatic societies. Read More

I am a focused instructor and pursue progress. I come from a background of a love for music that turned into a desire to learn and perform. I owe everything I have become to my instructors, and I try to implement some of their technique into my teaching every chance I get. I have just recently graduated from a three-year master's program in voice performance. Since I've started that program, I have had the opportunity to travel Europe with a vocal ensemble, perform three times at the Grove Park Inn, act as diction coach for a professional opera chorus, and perform Mozart's Requiem. I approach teaching with a systematic and rhythmic approach. First we want to nurture and nourish the creative and playful elements that draw one to want to learn while we incorporate the fundamentals of theory, technique, etc. into that fun and build upon a foundation that will give the practitioner the tools to communicate in and understand musical terms and will also broaden the scope of the learner's musical vision which broadens the scope of ones entire being and awareness.
