I'm a passionate instructor who cares deeply about a students education. In 2015, I graduated from West Johnston High School as drum captain in my band program. Since then I've performed in Alchemy Independent, an open class indoor percussion group. I've been with the group since 2017, and I have completed 2 seasons with them. Performing for an audience has been the best experiences of my life, and having the opportunity to play with all of these different organizations have been incredible and inspiring. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet
I began teaching students in earnest during my senior year of undergraduate school in 1984-85. Prior to graduate school I was an adjunct trumpet teacher at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. Part of my graduate assistantship was as an instructor and since graduation I have helped a number of students from beginner to intermediate level achieve their goals in both classical and non classical settings. I have played professionally in a number of different touring groups as well as played in backup bands for national and international artists. Read More

I believe that music students are not "one size fits all", so I create an individual approach catered to each student's strengths, weaknesses, and interests. For beginners, I typically start with the very basics such as putting the instrument together(if applicable), posture/form, and fingerings. Then, I will cater my teaching materials to the student and their situation, which sometimes means the majority of their work is print materials. Read More
Instruments: Drums Orchestral Percussion
As far as my teaching style is concerned, I strongly believe in teaching one "how to fish," as opposed to just letting them eat for a day. I purposely introduce material and techniques that are outside of the student's playing ability early on, so as to push them exponentially past whatever they originally "thought" they could do. To some, this pedagogical approach may seem a little extreme, but in my 10+ years of teaching, I've found that every student that has decided to stick with this style has found themselves playing some of the very styles and techniques that they never thought possible before. Instruments: Piano Clarinet Music
I believe my role as a teacher is to help students improve their musical abilities in a holistic manner. This means in addition to talking about technique, we will discuss theory and history related to the instrument and repertoire (depending on level of the student) as well as healthy and productive practice habits. I will help students to set realistic weekly goals so each student is improving consistently and feeling satisfied with his/her accomplishments each week. Read More
