I have taught elementary, middle, and high school music and have enjoyed each experience. I was teaching chorus, class keyboard, music theory, music appreciation, and modern band ensemble. I always want for my students to feel successful which is why I not only encourage their practicing but provide specific details on what they need to practice so they feel the most successful and know exactly what they need to practice. Then there would be 15 minutes of review which would consist of finding which parts of the material are most challenging and finding the most effective way for the student to practice those parts and perfect the material. My teaching style is relaxed and encouraging of every student. No student should be made to feel less than, regardless of what experience level they are bringing to the studio. Respectful interaction and gentle redirection has served me well when working with students, even when they become frustrated. It is important to reassure and encourage while also pointing the student towards the methods and exercises that will serve them to overcome any current obstacles they are facing vocally. Read More

My teaching method combines aspects of the Suzuki method with my own creative exercises and improvisation. I believe that teaching students to invent melodies and rhythms from early in their musical training deepens their ability to hear and perform. I also believe that rhythmic exercises are not emphasized enough in classical instrumental training, and I incorporate such exercises into my own core curriculum. If a student is interested in improvisation, jazz, or pop music, I offer in-depth instruction to performing over chord changes, and other creative violin techniques like playing chords, chopping, and other percussive tools. However, in specific moments I am willing to push a student out of their comfort zone to get them to learn something new. Piano: I am not a stereotypical piano teacher! I am very nice, but will also tell you what you need to hear. Especially with beginner, or younger students I think it is important to increase enthusiasm for the instrument while giving students the tools they need to continue pursuing higher levels of technique and understanding. I have been teaching music lessons since I was a freshman in college, pursuing my violin performance degree. It has been over 7 years and my passion for teaching students of all different ages and backgrounds continues to grow. Over the years, I've taught over 40 different students; some were my own private students, and some I taught at institutions around New York City. Seeing students fall in love with playing the violin and do their best to improve warms my heart and the feeling never grows old. Read More

One of the biggest things I've learned from teaching students and being a student myself is that ultimately, the student's mindset and practice habits are the biggest determinant in their improvement. That is why I believe strongly in getting to know each individual student before designing a week-by-week curriculum that I feel is best for them. Books I tend to use often include the Faber "Piano Adventures" series, Hanon, and Bartok's "Mikrokosmos" (for sightreading practice). Read More
