My students can expect to have a tailored curriculum based on age, experience, and style preferences. I am proud to say that I am trained in both Traditional and Suzuki methods, which is an advantage when working with a wide range of pupils. I often alternate between these methods, based on what the student preference. I often start beginner students on sight-reading which involves picking up the song by ear before moving on to more complex pieces. Read More

I've been a lifetime musician, and love finding unique and fun ways to motivate my students. I've worked with most styles of music before, and arranged music for many as well, so I'm very comfortable helping students with a variety of disciplines and interests. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student. For the beginning, I will start with Hal Leonard brand of music lessons. Although I was taught the ABRSM method of teaching, I understand that there is importance for the student to grasp the basic fundamentals. I will also begin to introduce appropriate music as solo pieces for their first recital performances. I encourage all styles of music and believe that to truly enjoy learning music, one must first understand why they love the music they hear in their everyday life. Read More

Lessons need to be fun but at the same time the student needs to feel like they're making real progress. What I do is slow down whatever we're working on to a manageable pace for the student then slowly speed things up in a way that is comfortable for the student while at the same time providing new challenges and goals for the student to work toward. If the student is willing I also give the student the opportunity to perform live in front of their friends and family in real shows at real venues around town. Read More

Times have changed since I began on the piano over fifty years ago. I believe the learning process should be engaging and fun and not the rote practice assignments I had to endure. I believe students should gain a limited orientation to the world of music to identify current artists, genres, and the structures of musical styles popular today. This is accomplished by introducing a play list for listening and learning. Read More

Presently, I've authored seven books on California's diverse landmark history. I keep up to date on the latest and greatest music from pop, world, latin, jazz and blues. I can advise almost anyone interested in piano, computerized or electronic keyboards, how to find the best options and brands available. Read More
