I love sharing what I've learned about singing through my decades as a Professor at Berklee College of Music, Boston. Berklee is the #1 college that teaches Commercial Music (mostly Jazz and Pop). Currently I sing a combination of pop and classical in church as well as teach fitness in Encinitas. I have written books on singing and American diction as well as having recorded with symphonies and jazz bands. My studio includes a computer, printer, BOSE P.A. as well as capability for playing CD's or cassette tapes, and of course, my piano. Read More

I teach private lesson, which means I plan and teach according to the individual's goal and level. When a student has one song that he or she just want to improve, I will help and focus on that song. When a student want to learn general piano, I use "My First Piano Adventure" piano book series. For piano technique, I use study materials from Certificate of Merit (Piano tests in California). My philosophy is defined by the need for the student to be actively engaged in what they are doing. This means that I keep things moving during lessons. Within a broader structure, the student chooses what they want to work on. For all ages, I work to create a safe environment by actively encouraging mistakes. At all times, students must feel safe enough to fail. In many instances, a student's "mistake" would actually be correct in another situation. Read More

It is my duty to help my students understand the excitement that music can bring to their lives and to the lives of others around them while secretly helping my students understand the importance of being good human beings. Every student will work at their own their own pace and goals will be set and reached based on their ability. My philosophy on educating a student in music is to make every lesson as enjoyable as possible. Read More

I would teach my lesson on top of my lesson plans. As a teacher, writing lesson plans is an important factor of keeping the lesson organized. The lesson also depends a lot on the students' learning pace and hard work. I will take time to get to know the students and to find out their different learning style(visual, aural or kinetic. )I will set a detailed goal and plan for my students and keep track of their progress and measure our weekly target accordingly. For chords we will work through some books that I've had great past success with in my lessons. It's a great way to start off with just 2 or 3 chords, and slowly add more chords and strumming patterns as we progress through the book. As we learn more chords, we eventually start incorporating these chords into our songs as well. For advanced students I sometimes focus more heavily on one particular aspect of a students playing if they desire that (for example; if the student is already proficient in rhythm we may move directly to soloing and music theory). *I do not force my students to learn notation as I've found it can be very discouraging (especially for children), but I can incorporate this into the lesson if it's desired by the parent or student. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
