I'm a fun, motivated and passionate instructor.  I graduated from McGill University's Schulich School of Music in 2009 with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, with voice as my main instrument.  Since then I have been teaching and performing around New York at historic venues such as Birdland, The Plaza, Iridium, Bitter End, amongst others.  I have also recorded an album with Grammy nominated producer and arranger Rob Mounsey and perform with the world-famous Postmodern Jukebox.  I have taught a variety of genres, ages, and levels of students.  Through my performance, recording, and teaching experiences, I’ve acquired substantial knowledge to bestow on my students.  It’s a true gift to be able to share my love of music and to help my students reach their potential.   Read More

My approach depends completely upon the genre and goals of my students and their skill level. For beginners, I must always take a lesson to explain exactly what each part of the instrument is and how it works. For rock and pop students, the very first thing I will teach them are open chords and the pentatonic scale, and maybe even a simple song depending upon the student. I believer that by fostering a positive and safe environment, I can help students feel free to take chances and develop in a way that feeds into and grows their love of music. I stress fundamentals regardless of the preferred style of music that a student might be pursuing. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I especially love teaching voice. I make goals and adjust to the pace of the student.  While I don't believe I am too strict a teacher, I am always trying to challenge students. Besides keeping them on track with practicing the fundamentals, I encourage students to discover how beautiful and fun music is.    I think my style is more learning music itself. Since I am a singer, piano player and composer, I think I more encourage my students to use their ears and to understand harmony and theory which very is useful for playing music with any instruments. I teach Suzuki and Energy Efficient Cello Technique. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Cello Book. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I've taught lessons for a total of 8 years in New York City, Boston, and Midwestern Illinois. I've taught all kinds of students: children, teens, college students, adults, and retirees. Each student has come with their own goals and passions, and I enjoy helping each individual uncover, free, and develop the natural voice within. In addition to setting each student up with a solid vocal technique, I've taught basic music and vocal health to young children (ages 5-7), developed music reading skills in teens and young adults, helped retirees improve technically so they can better contribute to their community choirs, and even instructed a folk singer in improvisation, songwriting, and healthy folk vocal technique.
