My music teaching experience began over fifteen years ago when my first student was recommended to me by my high school music director to teach a younger student privately. Since then, I have taught people of all ages drums, guitar, ukulele, piano, world percussion, and even some violin. I believe nothing is more rewarding than having a relationship to music, and teaching music has given me the opportunity to share the joy of music with others. Read More

I began teaching private lessons in 2019. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for student, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. If a student is not having fun in their lessons, then I am not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. Instruments: Piano
My approach to helping students become better musicians and people is to try to cultivate a genuine desire to progress rather than a compulsion to comply with external pressure and expectations. I believe my teaching style makes achieving goals exciting for the student, rather than burdensome. This eliminates the need for pulling the teacher authority card. Establishing a good teacher-student rapport reinforces positive associations that enrich the process of musical growth. Read More
Instruments: Piano Cello
For beginning students, i'll typically start with Suzuki books. It's important for students to learn the left and right hand separately before putting everything together. Once a student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I'll introduce some simpler solo repertoire appropriate for his or her skill level. For advanced, I'll be happy to talk about more advanced musical techniques and theories. I play the piano as well, and I will be happy to accompany my students playing repertoire that needs an accompanist. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone
For younger and beginning students, I typically start with technique exercises that focus on producing a strong and clean sound on the instrument, and ensure that the base technique is solidified. We will then work through various technique and work books until the student is at a level where they can choose the music that interests them most. For adults and more advanced students, I like to gear the lessons toward what they want to learn, and provide them with the tools they need to reach their goals. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
Based on a child's interest and personal voice, I recommend pieces of music varying from musical theatre, 28 Italian Songs, Schirmer's Book of Solos, and Hal Leonard's Standard Literature. In our lessons, I teach students to warm up with the proper technique, and so that they may warm themselves up when practicing. We also work on sight reading and dictation to implement musical literacy. Most importantly, we discuss textual meaning and how it relates to our performance skills. Read More
