My teaching experience goes all the way back to when I was in high school. I was teaching my peers outside of school, giving them lessons, helping them with music theory, etc., and I have helped more than one of them go on to music school with me. Ive been teaching guitar lessons on their own for 10 years, starting by teaching beginners and working my way up to more advanced teaching about 5 years ago. Read More

I like to have my students progress to a point where they feel comfortable picking a song of their choice, transcribing it as accurately as possible, and playing it. For advanced students: there is no set structure for advanced students, as their requests and sets of strengths and weaknesses are so individually specific that I have to create a specific lesson plan for each student. However, one theme that I love to introduce advanced musicians to in terms of music theory are the psycho-acoustics and emotional manipulation of specific chord progressions, modes, cadences, and modal interchange. The level of the student matters greatly to my approach. For younger students, I'll usually use their band music or band methods to supplement class work, as well as offering my own exercises to strengthen fundamentals. Older students often use the Rose, Uhl and Lester etude books. I use Avrahm Glaper's Scales and Arpeggios for my technical exercise or use exercises that I've come up with myself. Read More
Instruments: Accordion
Sounds daunting but a child can learn to play major and minor bass chords in a very short period of time, because you learn by feel since you can't see your bass. Where a pianist must take pains to play bass keys with chords, a beginner accordionist can play major, minor, and sevenths within three lessons. After being familiar with the bass, the accordionist can concentrate on his/her keyboard side, because the bass becomes almost second nature with the exception of more advanced and classical counterpoint studies. As your teacher, my desire is to pass along my passion for music. Passing along my knowledge and helping you develop you skills is just one way to help you find your own passion for music. My lessons reflect this philosophy. I set realistic goals for every student every week. I have expectations for practice times and progression through my methods; however, I never get too bogged down in this. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I want to find out each student's skill level, and start from there. For beginners, I try to keep thing informal and fun while teaching basics without putting any pressure to get into the technical stuff like hand technique and reading until they're ready. For intermediate students, I nudged them along with weekly lessons that are challenging enough to keep them engaged - this includes reading, hand technique and limb independence. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I'm looking for motivated students who want to quickly and efficiently improve their piano. I've taken lessons privately, at college (William and Mary in Virginia), and a great interest in empowering people. I have an analytical mind so hopefully that helps break down a complex problem into something very approachable. Let's meet, set our goals and I can be as independent as you need. I have played piano for 25 years and performed for singers, soloists, and in solo concerts as well. Read More
