Instruments: Piano Synthesizer Keyboard
Typically with beginner students I work through the Alfred's Piano series (Adult and Children) and we focus on performance, technique, ergonomics, theory, and ear training. If a student wishes to work on composition or music production, after a proper foundation, we can explore that as well. Once a student has reached proficiency in the Alfred's series then I like to move into classical or other music as that a student might be interested in. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Violin Viola
My beginners start on violin, and the first few weeks learning the basics of position and posture. Then I start them with Suzuki Book 1 and supplemental rhythm and theory exercises. After book 1, I assess their progress and drive and either switch them to Barbara Barber's Solos for Young Violinists, or have them stay through Suzuki Book 2 and 3. If my students have interest in viola, I encourage them to stay on violin until they are in high school or even longer (through Mozart concertos) if possible. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I am very positive about teaching my students. I have the knowledge to teach about the theory, technique and flow of the music up through the intermediate level. I don't necessarily stay with the music until it is perfect, because as the student learns more they can always come back to it and play it better. I do encourage my students to perform pieces they are doing well with, it's always fun to play for a small group and share each others gifts. Read More
Instruments: Flute
I always aim to create an environment that leads students to discover their own passion for music! I provide constructive feedback which always focuses on the positive so the student learns to pay attention to what they are doing right. Setting reachable goals every lesson helps a student feel like they are in control of their own success and builds their motivation to succeed. I believe it is important that the student learn to recognize their own accomplishments so that as they are practicing, they can begin to become the best judges of their own progress and get the most out of their lessons. Instruments: Piano Keyboard
My teaching is very goal-oriented. Some adults may want the satisfaction of simply playing Blues, or Fur Elise, or "Don't Stop Believin'" for their own enjoyment, and we work through the music easily as their practice time allows. Parents have the opportunity to see their children shine in recitals twice a year. During their lessons, the younger student and I work hard on note-reading, rhythm, and expression. We set weekly goals in order to be ready by performance time. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Voice Trumpet
For beginning students, I typically start with a combination of exercises from the Hal Leonard Rubank trumpet method book and crafted exercises learned from my studies with masterful instructors. We then work on age level appropriate solo repertoire and duets in which the student and I can play together. For older students we focus on a condensed embouchure development routine and then repertoire from the classical or jazz tradition based on the students interests. Read More
Instruments: Voice
Moving to Colorado Springs,I taught choral music and musical theatre for fifteen years, while offering private voice lessons.I directed numerous Broadway musicals in the public schools and enjoyed working with choreography. My choirs won top scores consistently in choral competitions. Students entering the Solo and Ensemble competitions received top scores and praise from their judges. Now in New Mexico, I continue to enjoy sharing my passion for singing. Read More
