I've been teaching piano for over 10 years, teaching both privately and in group classes. I've taught students from 7 1/2 to 75. My passion for teaching has extended into my graduate studies, where I focused on piano pedagogy. In addition, I've spent the last 5 years working in a University Teaching Center, working with faculty members and graduate students on how to improve their classroom teaching! I began teaching to some degree in middle school. I would help the school guitar teacher with beginner and advanced guitar during lunch. Most of my responsibility was reinforcing the lessons and practicing alongside individual students who were struggling. While attending high school, I was the only guitarist for the school band and got requests for private lessons from my peers, which I gladly accepted. I come from a family with strong history in music, and music has played a vital role in my life and experience. All my life I have watched my parents, brothers, uncles, and aunts perform, whether simply at family gatherings or for larger venues. For beginning students (children or adults) I begin with an introduction to the major scale and implement it into our vocal warm-ups. Once the student has developed and progressed over certain aspects I will introduce repertoire that will be learned and performed at the end. I often create my own custom lesson plans because every student is different and requires certain attention. Teaching clarinet and piano has been the most rewarding part of my musical journey. I started by teaching masterclasses to high school students in 2017, and from there I began teaching lessons in the Bryan/College Station area. I have taught middle school and high school level students ranging from beginners to advanced level students. I like to encourage using a set schedule for lessons and practicing so that student can develop the habits they need to progress through musical learning.
