I am a cellist currently living in NYC, and have am experienced in performing, recording, and teaching experience. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2014, where I received my Bachelor's degree in cello performance. There, I studied classical, rock, folk, and improvisation on the cello. I've had the opportunity to play in Boston's Symphony Hall, as well as many other venues in the city. Listening! I want to hear from the student why they're excited to play the instrument, in my case learn how to sing or play guitar. Every person and thus every student will be different. Some people find certain things easier or harder than others, so even if say I were teaching say two students of the same ability or progress level I wouldn't just give them excercises out of a book I'd customize the lessons so they could develop and build upon their currentskill level. I center the way I teach technique around what "feels" good to a student, especially older students who have already started, to make sure that we are able to prevent and respond to injuries. So, I start with stretching and will frequently refer back to exercises that are meant to integrate physical ease into playing. Aside from that, I try to balance a consistent routine/expectation of things I want to cover (asking for things a week in advance, always playing a scale at the start of the lesson, etc), while also meeting a student where they are at on the day.
