I'm a singer/songwriter first, and foremost. My passion for music leads to an enthusiasm to teach. I've been in bands since I was in Jr. High. My certification is as an Indie Artist from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. I specialize in teaching songwriting, and creative playing. For a long time I did not want to teach. I thought that those who can't do, teach- as the saying goes. As a father of a young boy few things give me more joy than to see my son learn about music, and Drums/Percussion in particular. As a musician I taught many musicians music theory; from diatonic scales/circle of fifths to pitch clusters and counterpoint. I went to school at Pasadena City College and studied music and got two associates degrees from that College. Went on to teach both middle school and high school drumlines and got them competing and achieving State Championship titles. I am happy to work on standard classical flute repertoire, contemporary flute repertoire, and music in non-classical styles. For young piano students, our first few lessons will be dedicated to posture, hand position, basic rhythm, and learning note names on the piano keyboard. We will then progress to music reading. While in high school and college, I mostly tutored other students in history, chemistry, and math. However I worked as a private instructor for students learning violin and guitar for much of 2017. I was trained classically in violin in the Suzuki method, took rock/folk-based instruction in guitar, and learned brass and percussion through my high school marching band, which also doubled as a concert ensemble for half of the school year. I have performed the professional role of Lady Ella/Chorus with Cimarron Opera in their performance of Patience. I was previously a member of the Wichita Grand Opera Chorus, and recently performed in their productions of Turandot, Don Carlo, Tosca, Guillaume Tell, Otello and Le Nozze di Figaro. I have alsoperformed other professional roles such as a Belle/Chorus in The Forum Theater's production ofA Christmas Carol. Throughout my various degrees, I have also performed roles in Hansel and Gretel, Bastien und Bastienne, Dido and Aeneas, Die Zauberflote, The Lonley Empress, Les Contes d'Hoffman, Dangerous Liasons, Ariadne auf Naxos and Eric Hermansen's Soul.
