For beginning students, I usually prefer to use the Suzuki method, as this is the method I grew up on, and I prefer to teach the knowledge that I find useful in the method. In middle school, I began performing and teaching music during the summers at Vacation Bible School for children ages 3-10. Throughout high school, as a member of a variety of bands, I performed at a wide array of venues around New England. During this time, I ventured into song writing and musical arrangement. The biggest challenge in the beginning is learning about you as a student and how you learn. When it comes to teaching voice, there is no one way of doing so. Each child learns differently and each child has a different instrument, and it is most important that that be figured out first. I will generally start out with well known songs sung by ear, and then depending on the students level help them to learn to read music.
