I am an introvert and sometimes need to work on my art with a teacher one-on-one instead or in a classroom setting. This is the kind of space I provide for my students. I don't want them to feel intimidated, shy or under any pressure. I want them to feel as though they can have fun while simultaneous working on their craft. For beginning piano students who are children, I typically start with scales and Hal Leonard's My First Piano and for older students, Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course. Read More

For young students, I use a Suzuki Method hybrid, meaning I incorporate additional note-reading and music theory elements while using the Suzuki Violin books and Suzuki's core values of imitation and ear training. I also supplement with many pieces outside of the Suzuki Method, including folk, blues, fiddle, and other styles. As students progress I include traditional etudes, technique studies and scales. My ultimate goal is to give my students all the tools they need to play and learn pieces on their own, and to that end I ensure they fully comprehend and master each step of learning before introducing new concepts. I teach kids with Frederick Noad's Guitar Solo Playing and also I adopt the guitar curriculum created by Austin Classical Guitar. Both methods provide several pieces that the kid plays with the teacher. In this way, while the kids play simple notes/lines and start developing some skills (musical and technical), they are making beautiful music together with the teacher or other students. I worked as a teacher assistant using the Austin Guitar Curriculum at Adams Elementary School (St Louis), and the results were great. Read More
Instruments: Drums
Whether I was teaching Drum Labs at Berklee College of Music or teaching privately in my Boston Studios, there has never been one student who has not moved me to want to do all I can to further their drumming and musical aspirations. I work closely with students in designing a plan that seeks to fulfill both short and long-term musical goals. We work together to contruct a lesson plan that is inspiring, demanding, and achievable. I know I'm doing my job when my student is growing not only in their abilities, but in their love of music! Ensuring that each student is learning repertoire that they enjoy at a pace that suits them is central to my teaching style. I love to find each student's strengths and celebrate them, as well as targeting goals for improvement in a warm, safe setting. I believe that music is meant to bring joy and healing to people, whether you are listening to it or making it. Read More

I began teaching private lessons part time 7 years ago. I like teaching because I can help pupils achieve. I continued my teaching career by directing strings of junior orchestras in Irvine. I directed strings of IDream Junior Orchestra and the IBC Junior Orchestra in many public performances for years. I also directed viola section of Purme Orchestra in Seoul, Korea. As an active member in Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), in addition, I have given private music lessons for violin and viola. Read More

I have found that when a student has incremental goals laid out, it encourages them to take music from an abstract idea to something they truly enjoy doing! Watching them showcase their progress in a live performance setting is something I have been lucky enough to witness, and do my best to facilitate. By taking each students' individual musical tastes and using them to illuminate common musical concepts, both my students and I have a good time learning! Read More
