My expectations for my students remain consistently high. I believe it is a moral imperative as an instructor to expect the best from each and every pupil. Not only does this affect the process of learning for the individual but also influences the community at large, challenging others to strive toward their best. I believe my main objective is to endow the student with the security of technique and self whereby they may reveal their own unique creativity and expression. Read More

I currently have over 10 years experience in trombone, baritone and tuba. I have taught some of my peers and classmates how to overcome struggles in certain music. I’m a passionate instructor that has enthusiastic energy and desire to make students improve. I believe that not only does the instructor must be talented good, but also know how to teach and build a strong trusting relationship to help achieve the student’s goals and see their progress. I am currently working on getting my bachelor’s degree in viola performance at the University of Houston on scholarship studying under Suzanne LeFevre, professional violist who plays at the Houston Grand Opera, and alongside with Wayne Brooks, principal chair violist from the Houston Symphony. I don't have just ONE method...because every student has different likes, and different goals, they need personalized lessons. Some enjoy music theory, others prefer to just learn a more basic approach. Since I learned formally (in school/lessons) and informally (by ear, self-taught and playing onstage), I can give students whichever method suits their goals, with as much or as little theory as they are comfortable with. I specialize in playing by ear, which is essential for students who want to play onstage or make music with others, without worrying about sheet music. Read More

I like to first access the student and their proficiency level. Once I discover your weak points I focus on them and drill them to perfection. Once we have those down. Of course it takes much practice on your part at home alone, then we can move onto actual music and integrating all the skills you learned naturally into harmonious music.--There is no set way to my teaching style because every student is different and must be addressed with their own distinct methods and styles of learning. -I do not teach in the way schools teach their subjects such as history or math. -I learn the student before I can teach the student based off how they live, interact, and learn. I firmly believe in establishing long term goals for which the class is being taught and developed. For beginner students who are children, I tend to lean into the music that they are more fond of listening to and develop an atmosphere of interest while using various colors, singing methods, rhymes that will grasp their attention and in the long run develop their ear. For young adults and up, I develop my lesson plans accordingly depending on their level of musicianship. Read More

I started instructing and leading my peers at high school in 2008, then at college in 2011 as section leader in the Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band. Before graduating I did my student teaching in Grambling, La at the laboratory school. This school had students from K - 12 and I had the opportunity to work with all grades. In 2013, I started teaching professionally in Alexandria, La. This is where I learned how to start students on an instrument. Read More
