I started to teach privately in June 2012, teaching both voice and early piano. I teach students out of their homes, or a space of their choice. I have mostly worked out of their local schools or churches. I encourage and emphasize regular practice on a consistent schedule. I encourage hard work, but also fun when practicing, and during lessons to help maintain a student's growth and interest. After graduation I went and taught in Chicago for a few years and Greenville SC where I was the music teacher in both schools. Most beginners benefit from a method book, such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, which is a good starting place for most students. As students progress on their instrument, I choose the method books and solos that will best help them develop their talents as well as keep them engaged in the material. During my years on the flute, I have used a wide variety of methods that I have found successful for different techniques, so I can effectively select what material will help each student become successful.
