I suggest playing for ten minutes at one time working through each exercise for those ten minutes before taking a rest for 20 minutes. Then move to the next etude or scale. Start with a consistent warm up in the middle of your range. The warm up should be the same every time wherein students can expand on their warm up on their own. This warm up is part of the first ten minutes of practice time. Read More

Music is my gift. I am blessed with a natural ability which I have dedicated my life to learn, cultivate and nurture. To share this through teaching is rewarding. I teach students of all ages and levels. We have two recitals per year, which are unique and fun because of our wide variety of instruments and our group songs. My introductory lesson is full of information to build a foundation on which further knowledge can stand. Read More

For students between the ages of 3 and 7, I typically use either the Little Mozarts method or the Birds and Dogs method. For students who are older, I use a combination of methods, including Alfred's, Bastien and Faber. I have also designed and used my own curriculum for students with special needs, including students who have autism, cerebral palsy, nerve damage, ADHD and for gifted students. I incorporate classical music including Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Kabalevsky and many others for more advanced students, and especially for students who are competing. Read More

My teaching experience started many years ago with a few students who were interested in learning jazz and improvisational music. I have taught group classes and one on one now for 25 years. I have much experience working with beginner and young students making their first attempts at playing an instrument as well as players already proficient at the guitar who want to brach out and learn new things. I prefer to teach students who can commit to a regular scheduled weekly lesson as Ive found the consistant work on an instrument is what really produces the most positive results and enjoyment for the student. Because each student progresses at his or her own pace, I am extremely patient and encouraging in each lessonmusic should be a relaxing, fun pastime free of anxiety and stress about progressing overly rapidly. We will work hard, but we will remember the underlying joy that comes from making music! Therefore, each lesson will target areas of improvement in each student's playing, while positively reinforcing each student's success as we progress each week. Read More

I'm a pssionate musician and music teacher. I enjoy sharing my passion with students. I spend much of my time composing and teaching. I graduated from Lewis and Clark College in 2012 with a major in English and a heavy emphasis on music. I have studied African drumming, electronic music, classical music and jazz. I am well versed in hip hop as well. I have stayed tru to my roots and focused on mostly acoustic music, but my range transfers over to electric as well. Read More

Goals are an essential part of teaching. Students need something to work toward and I want those goals to be realistic and motivate the student to work towards them. Having a basic outline of a lesson plan is important and so is the flexibility to adjust it to fit the individual needs of the student. My goal is not to have the best playing students, but to have students with the most growth in their own abilities. Read More
