I started teaching right after high school, helping at band camps and during the season. I started giving lessons soon after and in 2007 I was offered the oppurtunity to be the drumline instructor for a local high school. I would teach there until 2012. I wrote exercises, cadences, their show music, and taught them all the fundementals of marching and proper playing technique. Every year we would also perform an indoor show which I wrote both the music and drill. Read More

I began teaching as a college student. Many of my peers looked up to me and I helped them along their musical path. I further assisted them on their instrument technique, and assisted in learning new styles like jazz music. During my masters tenure, I was a graduate assistant and taught many students and led ensembles to great student achievement. I also was a middle school band director for a brief period. Read More

I strongly believe that everyone can learn to sing as long as they desire to learn and are willing to practice. I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities, and pride myself on being able to teach pretty much anyone and everyone. I begin all students with the same fundamentals: a healthy, natural, honest voice centered on the breath and not forced into any specific mold. This healthy base enables my students to sing a wide variety of genres and styles from classical, opera, musical theatre, jazz, rock, pop, country, and more. Read More

Apart from treating time as the precious resource it is (meaning I will give your time the utmost respect and expect the same from you) . . . my style is friendly, patient, and "open" to an extreme. If you have particular goals, communicate them to me, and I will teach you everything relevant to them. If you don't, I will help you identify your goals. If you want to remain "goal-free" (for example, because you used to have some forceful teacher, punishing you for your "lack of dedication" or the like), I have a blast simply looking into facets of music with a curious student. It is my desire to see students reach their goals by giving them a solid technical base upon which they can build their personal sound! I find that once the basics are down, it is so much fun to start to incorporate the student's specific desires (wanting to learn classical or pop). THAT is what makes practice so much fun. When you are passionate about what you are doing, you can't help but pick up your instrument and practice! Read More

I like teaching and performing music. There is nothing better than when I learn to play the piece well. Also-when I teach the beginning student-it is great to see how that student develops his/her playing over the days/weeks/months. It is good to have constant attention of the teacher because of learning to play the pieces in correct way is very important. The correct playing will help the student to achieve even higher goals-that is to play both melodically and technically more difficult. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar for Kids and Bass for Kids methods. At the same time, I assign exercises that will help develop the students technique. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I try to find out what kind of music the student is interested in, and guide my instruction to keep the lessons interesting and engaging. Read More
