My approach to teaching is personal, flexible, and student-centered. I will start by finding out what the student knows already, and what the student wants to know. What kinds of music do they want to play, and why? (For instance: for fun; accompanying themselves singing; performing in front of people; becoming professional.) If the student can play some samples of songs they would like to learn, all the better. Along the way, some basics will surely be covered (chords, scales, basic music theory, various instrumental techniques). Read More
Instruments: Guitar
My approach to teaching is very non-intimidating and I have a great personal interest in how all of my students are progressing. Beyond that, I make sure to cultivate a love of guitar and music in general within the student. Formal lessons eventually end for all students, and it is important to me that my students have enough passion to expand their abilities further once we are through. When you love playing guitar, there is no cringing before practice, no dreading facing the teacher next week if you don't. Read More

I completed a Masters Degree in Music (Saxophone Performance) with an emphasis in Jazz Studies in 2016 from the Lamont School of Music and have experience working with underprivileged students with varying income backgrounds. I approach teaching students with an individual needs based curriculum and am mindful of their ability and goals. The experience I have gained from performing saxophone on a professional level in multiple musical situations will aide in preparing students for a career in the music industry. Read More
Instruments: Drums
The experience I have teaching goes back to my time at the University of Colorado Denver, I enrolled in an Afro-Cuban hand percussion class, and in a music pedagogy(teaching) course. The music pedagogy course taught me numerous teaching philosophies and required me to teach lessons regularly with a student. The afro-cuban ensemble gave me immense experience tutoring other students that were coming into the class without any drumming experience. Read More

The key goal for me as a teacher is making sure that my student is enjoying what they're doing. Music is supposed to be fun after all! I achieve this by allowing my student to progress at their own pace while they develop both their knowledge of music and their enjoyment of the craft. I like to really dig into fundamentals by making sure that they are FUNdamentals! A student will learn more if they are enjoying the process, and that is key to making a long lasting impact, and instilling in a student that they will have all the tools they need to become the best musician they can. I started teaching privately while attending university in Denver, concentrating in jazz and American improvised styles on guitar. Although while I love jazz some of my favorite music is surf, classic country, and soul (blues and rock n roll too). I have 7+ years teaching experience and for the past several years had been teaching from my home office in Wheat Ridge, although now I also teach out of the Golden Music School as well. Read More

My main focus with string instruments is sound development - how to use the bow properly and get a beautiful sound from the instrument first and foremost. I typically use Sound Innovations for Strings for beginning students, and start supplementing with different repertoire as we get further into lessons. For beginning students, we start with a proper hold, left hand set up, and only after that do we get to using the bow so we can focus on getting the best sound possible out of the instrument.
