For beginning students who are children, I typically start with rudiments on a snare drum before approaching a drum kit. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce them to a small basic drum kit set up using only the snare, hi hat, and kick drum. I love music and have studied piano since I was six years old.  I also studied organ and clarinet briefly.  My degrees are in Psychology and Communications.  I worked for state and federal government agencies and was a writer and producer for CNN/Atlanta for ten years.  I enjoy teaching piano and now have six students ranging in age from 4 to 36 years of age.  I also enjoy tennis and am a former law student, but found the latter not to my liking. For beginning students I try to go slow and make sure that they get the fundamentals and essentials down. My beliefs are that learning each stage well will help expedite the process of learning and playing later in life. At some point shortly after the fundamentals we will begin on solo literature and possibly duet literature.
