I began teaching over 20 years ago with a focus on early childhood and beginning piano lessons. I have had great success working with young students by providing a variety of activities each lesson and making sure that learning music is a joyful experience. Music theory, ear training, flash cards and rhythm exercises with percussion instruments are just a few examples of lesson activities that are included in addition to the core elements of proper technique and music literacy. I believe everyone, even teachers are students forever and we are all equal in this journey. I learn just as much, if not more from my students. I find the most progress in students are when they speak out and meet me halfway in the lesson. I am more than happy to adjust my methods as a teacher because no student is the same. I currently work with people with disabilities in music around the greater Boston area, but want to expand all around in the beautiful state of Rhode Island! Read More

Instruments: Drums

My methods are straight forward. I focus on developing or improving fundementals such as rudiments and then applying them to the drum-set. Everyone starts off at a different place, so I mold the process to fit the certain student in a way that helps them improve at their own pace. I mainly focus on rudiments, groove, and how to be a versitile drummer in order to get gigs. Read More

For piano I prefer the Faber series. I like to include scales, sight-reading, and repertoire of the students choosing and of my suggestion. For Voice I like to cover the anatomical fundamentals (posture, breath, phonation, and depending on age), in the first lesson, and each lesson includes a warm-up as well as at least one piece of repertoire of the students choosing. For guitar I teach note reading as well as tablature, but we mostly work from tablature, unless the student is studying classical. Read More

For young piano students I'm a fan of John Thompson method books. I get the student through beginners and then through at least the Grade 1 book. Then I introduce beginner piano literature books to help the student see a real music book. I work on music theory and how to map out a piece of music to learn it better. We start talking about musical style as well. For adults I use basically the same method but usually start with the Alfred all-in-one book. Read More

I invest time in understanding their musical preferences, interests, and motivations. This understanding enables me to craft customized lesson plans that incorporate repertoire, techniques, and activities that align with their musical tastes. By ensuring the lessons are relevant and engaging, I inspire my students to maintain their motivation and enthusiasm for their musical progress. Above all, my love for teaching permeates every interaction with my students. I am committed to establishing a positive and nurturing atmosphere where students feel inspired, supported, and valued. Instruments: Piano Guitar

I always work with a method book, and have a range of fun books to choose from from beginner to advanced for guitar and piano. I use a separate sheet of paper as a log of each day's lesson at the end to show what we worked on, what to practice, and other notes or positive remarks ( ‘great job’, etc.) With older students I encourage exploring your own musical tastes and learning from the artists you like. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
