I've always believed that learning comes 50% from the teacher, and 50% from the student. I do teach through lesson books but I've always found that they're better used as a guide rather than the focus of every lesson. I like to give the students the freedom to learn what they want to learn. I've always been willing to go the extra mile for my students, not just show up every week and continue from page 20 to see how far we get in the lesson book. Read More

The economy is rough. Your child still deserves to learn music. Growing up, it was not always easy for my parents to afford piano lessons. Despite that difficulty, I developed a love for music, (and particularly the piano) that has lasted throughout my life. I have played the piano for twelve years, and continue work to improve myself as a pianist every day. I was lucky enough to receive lessons from a woman who had her Master's Degree in Piano Performance from BYU, and my teaching methods mirror hers. Read More

My focus is always on the individual student and their music interests and goals. I do begin with foundational skills, music theory that is applicable to the knowledge level of my students, and technique building. However, I want my students to start to play songs as soon as possible and we only work on songs that THEY choose - I do not force students to learn songs that I select or songs that a book tells them to. I have been playing trumpet since the summer of 2006 and have been in love with the art form ever since. I am also an advocate for historic music performance practice and an avid avant-garde performer. I hold degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program and the Eastman School of Music. In addition to these degrees, I have received graduate level training from the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK and the Boston University College of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Read More

Hey there, my name is Johnny and thank you for visiting my page! From a young age, I was always steeped in music from my parents. My fondest memories are listening to Acoustic Alchemy with my mother as we drove to elementary school, and my dad playing the Grateful Dead on our way to the mountains to ski. I became interested in playing guitar at 13 and got serious by 16. At the time I was a huge fan of rock, metal, blues, and contemporary metal however, I lacked a musical understanding that was holding my playing ability back from where I was suppose to be at. Instruments: Piano Violin Keyboard
I love teaching piano and violin lessons to students of all ages from beginner to upper intermediate levels. I studied piano performance with Robert Smith and violin performance with Percy Kalt at BYU; I have also studied with Jeffrey Shumway, former Head of Keyboard Studies, BYU and Carroll Meyer, Boise State University. These wonderful teachers guided and inspired me to attain and pass on classical technique and style to the next generation of musicians. Read More
