Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student develop the same passion for music that I have. It is very important to me that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals at each lesson, by a deadline, etc. Acknowledging accomplisments helps fuel a students desire to progress and makes them eager to learn more. My lessons include a number of activities including piano instruction, ear training, theory, technique, and flash cards.  They are all great learning tools for a well-rounded music education. My experience in teaching has been mainly focused on voluntary work, in teaching close friends, family and friends. I have always wanted to teach the joys of Classical Music to all ages. I started drum lessons at 12 years old and studied jazz and swing drumming early on. I was a percussion major in college then spent a few years in Austin Texas traveling with country, rock and blues bands. Have played on over 20 records. I have several methods, but mostly I teach to sing based on solfeage and songs, either italian, german, latin, spanish, and french. Solfeage helps the student to understand better sheet music and also helps understand the real emotion of the piece, among other things involved in a piece. I attended St. Olaf College for my undergraduate degree and did a Bachelor's of Music in Trumpet Performance and Bachelor's of Arts in Music Theory/Composition. After graduating in 2009, I volunteered for a year as a music teacher in rural Malaysia.
