I was born with an "educator" mindset, and began teaching early on in my personal music studies. I began teaching about 10 years ago, in 2010, after getting into my undergraduate studies for music performance. I have taught all levels and in many different settings: To-date I have taught ages 6 through 65. I have taught in formal school system classrooms, private music studios, community centers and at a student's home. Everyone has a unique gift in music and I focus on honing this gift and letting it shine through. Read More

As stated above, I have been teaching and coaching private voice for over 10 years. I have been in demand as Vocal and Music Director for numerous community musical theatre productions. I have enjoyed working with students age 8 to 78. I am well-versed in classical, musical theatre and popular repertoire. The most important thing to note is that I believe there is ONE healthy and safe way to sing. We just learn to color our sound to meet stylistic needs. Read More

For my beginning students, I start out with a mixture of my own exercises, as well as basic songs using open strings, string crossings and rhythms, before moving to songs with basic fingerwork on one string (scale plus rhythm based). I usually supplement this beginning process with Essential Elements, before intruducing the Suzuki Method Book 1, Doflein Method Book 1, and rhythmic exercises from the Kodaly method. For my intermediate students, I use a mixture of Galamian bowing technique, emphasis on etudes and position work, Suzuki method, Barbara Barber scales and rep. books, and level-appropriate classical literature, combined with solo repetoire of the student's interest/choosing. I teach all levels and use a wide variety of methods for teaching, matching the students with what is most effective for their learning style and goals. I typically teach one-on-one with the student in my home office, giving vocal coaching and singing lessonsn lessons for children, adults, individuals and small groups; beginning or advanced levels. Students always love being in my class as I teach with patience and understanding, but have clear expectations about the proper way to sing and perform by creating a personalized lesson plan tailored to your needs. For all of my students, I like to blend what they need to know and what they want to know. I find that especially teaching guitar, learning it is very goal oriented. My students and I always come up with their goals during each lesson so they can have something to work up to for each week. Practice does make perfect, so I do strongly encourage practicing at least a couple hours a day. Read More
