Instruments: Drums
Nothing turned out well if it was rushed, and only diligent routines kept me on track. I stress that same lesson in my teaching. If a student wants to improve their playing, the only way forward is through practice. So, one of the best ways to improve drumming is by practicing how to practice. This technique can be used in every aspect of the student's life and is one of the most valuable skills anyone can have. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I have been told that I am a very energetic and encouraging teacher - I want my students to succeed and to be happy in their singing! I defintely will not stay seated behind the piano for the entire lesson. I like to get up and get involved! I won't ask students to try anything that I won't demonstrate myself first, which I have found usually puts them at ease (this is especially true with children and teens.) I have been a voice student myself for many years, so I know how it feels to be in their shoes, and I try to be as constructive and encouraging as possible while helping them discover their voice. Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. Read More

I have been teaching percussion lessons since 2010, when I lived in Norfolk, Virginia. I began teaching young K-5 students the basics of percussion like proper technique, posture, note recognition and values, different styles of music, etc. I began by asking the parents what their child was interested in and based on the conversation, I catered the lessons to each individual student. When I moved to Florida in 2013, I was a graduate assistant at Florida State University, an adjunct professor at Wallace Community College (AL), and an instructor at Mason's School of Music (K-8). I suit my lessons to the individual needs and goals of the student. For beginners, I typically begin out of a method book, but I also use studies and etudes that I have developed on my own in the course of my teaching career. Throughout the learning process, I engage the student with real music to build listening skills, and teach concepts like tone, phrasing, and expression. I also teach all of my students music theory and listening analysis because I believe this is a neccessary component of a strong musical foundation. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
Once I have identified students’ individualities, I acknowledge their strengths and focus my teaching on their weaknesses. For some, this may mean reevaluation of their posture and technique, as well as their consequent effects on tone production, shifting, intonation, and ease of playing. Many of the individual actions that make up technique can be broken down into several elements. The study of basics technical exercises is a practical way for students to overcome bad habits that have been ingrained over the years. Read More
