As a teacher I feel like a travel agent, guiding students on their own "flute journey." I have taught children, high school students, pre-college division music majors, college students and adult amateurs - students who have played in school and community orchestras, churches and for their own personal enjoyment. For my beginner saxophone students we will start by assembling the instrument and using the Hal Leonard's Essential Elements to learn the basic fingerings and songs. As for my beginner piano students we will start off with the Faber Piano Adventures book and work our way through the lessons. Once the student becomes more comfortable with their instruments we will start introducing appropriate solo repertoire and find songs that the individual student would enjoy learning. Read More

I am passionate about communicating through music and training others to achieve their full potential as a musician. I have served in twelve different churches over the years as a Minister of Music, and am still serving in that capacity. This has involved directing vocal choirs and ensembles of all ages, directing handbell and handchime choirs, and directing seasonal musicals and pageants. My teaching experience began when I was in college. I taught trombone and euphonium private lessons for several years in the school district that I attended when I was a student. Additionally, I also have done All State Masterclasses for the TMEA trombone etudes. Encouraging regular practice, building the life-long skill of discipline, and hard work are key skills that I enjoy getting to emphasize to my students, as it has a tendency to build student progression and ultimately gain a passion for learning the instrument. I do ask my students to set a goal and work to reach it. Furthermore, I do ask, but not require, my students to participate and perform in recitals - I have found recitals to be an invaluable teaching tool. My goal is for the student to enjoy their lessons so they stick with their piano lessons until it flows naturally and they hear the music - then they are hooked! Read More
