I have been teaching for over 30 years - I have taught in my home studio as well as traveled to my students' home to teach lessons. I have a Music Education degree and over 30 years of teaching experience. I have over 300 career piano students. I have successfully worked with people of all ages in their pursuit of learning to play the piano and to enjoy music. My teaching experience began in 2011. A friend of mine had bought a guitar and did not know a single thing about the instrument. he asked me if I could teach him how to play. After a few weeks of methods that I taught him and, exercises he was able to play the guitar without frustration. I always tell my students when they are starting out to give themselves at least 15 minutes a day to keep up on exercises to build up muscle memory. Read More

I use what I like to call the 'journal method' in my teaching. At the end of each lesson, according to the progress a student has made, I will write a number of assignments in a journal the student brings every week. This way, a student can move forward in some techniques while giving more focus to another area that still needs a little work. I also like to give bonus work to the students so that if they need a break, they have fresh material to work on. Read More

My teaching style is fun and goal oriented. I like to meet my students where they are and grow from there. I spend a lot of our first sessions asking questions and learning about what makes them excited about music, who they love to listen to, who they love to sing, and go from there. I believe in building a solid technique through both technical and anecdotal examples. I want to make sure I am always focused on what my student wants to get out of our time together. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! Solo and ensemble pieces are introduced as the student becomes more proficient and various performing opportunities begin to present themselves. Read More
