Fun. Music is fun. Learning music should be fun. My style of teaching is to take what I find fun about playing music and introduce it to my students in gradual easy to understand steps. I do my best at teaching my students to read, write and create music. I also include many fun exercises to achieve finger dexterity. For my more advanced students I will take them to local open mic nights to help grow their confidence. Read More

Ms. Kate is focused of developing student's joy of playing music. She chooses materials which suit each student's interest. She incorporates various activities so that students can enjoy their lessons. These activities include drawing, coloring, dancing, singing, etc. This helps to boost students progress and motivation. She also encourage students' performance in recitals - formal, informal, or even for family and friend. When I have a beginning student, I provide for them a basic lesson book that includes fun songs and introduction to theory. Each week I go over a song or two with the student and have them play for me the song or songs for their next week's lesson. If the student performs the piece well, they are rewarded with a sticker and can move on. For my more advanced students, I ask them what kind of music they are interested in and they play for me songs from their favorite movie or artist. Read More

I taught them to write their own songs and how to have stage presence while in group classes at the same as teaching each individual band member their specific instrument in private lessons before or after band class. Times have changed since I began on the piano over fifty years ago. I believe the learning process should be engaging and fun and not the rote practice assignments I had to endure. I believe students should gain a limited orientation to the world of music to identify current artists, genres, and the structures of musical styles popular today. This is accomplished by introducing a play list for listening and learning. Read More

I graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 1990 and began my professional teaching career in 1992. I consider myself an ambassador for and devotee of fine music - no matter what the genre may be. My goal in my teaching and performances is to transfer my passion and love for music and to inspire people - the way music has continually inspired me. Teaching and judging competitions does not leave me a lot of time for concertizing, though I do still perform. Read More
