I have 14 years of experience working with Elementary and Middle School aged musicians in a variety of capacities. I began my career as a Band Director, working with at-risk students in an after school program which served both Coachella Valley and Desert Sands unified school district. I later took a position with San Marcos Unified School District as a k-5 general music teacher, working with a student body of 1100 students on multiple focus areas, including group piano, musical theater, instrumental music and vocal music. Out of college and newly married, I began teaching both piano and flute. When babies came along, I focused on them instead. But after they were grown, I went back into music headlong! I became involved in a lot of performing as well as a lot of teaching. I would estimate that my total teaching experience, with both flute and piano, is at least twenty years. It has become very addictive to me to see my students succeed. It is not all about them learning how to play an instrument, but also to have them believe in themselves. Trusting they can go beyond and know they can learn more than they could possible imagine. My students gain a lot of confidence when this happens.
