Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. Consistent lessons are essential for vocal development as the muscle needs to properly develop, remain limber and be protected. Weekly lessons also allows for comfort and the joy of learning! Students are encouraged to audition for Musical Theatre productions where we prep their Auditions, Callbacks and show content. Students are also encouraged to enter competitions, cabarets, and open mics so they have regular performance opportunities to grow and accomplish their goals. Read More

I usually beginwith warm-ups, scales, music theory, then continue with reviewing past homework, focusing on posture, rhythm, technique, etc. Lastly, we will sightread and preview the next pieces to be assigned for homework. Pace is set mostly by the student and how much they practice, but I will always nudge the student to improve in musicianship and posture after every lesson, with patience and perseverance. Read More

I'm a recent graduate of Syracuse University, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Industry. I have played both the violin and piano since the age of four. Some of the greatest memories I have can be attributed to my experiences in music. In high school, I was able to tour Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria with my school's symphony orchestra. When teaching students who are young, I would first start off with the fundamentals. For example, I would explain music terms to them and develop the new language from there. Once the student has a basic understanding of music, I would then talk about the Circle of Fifths and encourage them to participate in events like concerts or festivals in school. When becoming a young adult, I would then discuss competitions and help them prepare for college auditions. Read More
