I am a graduate of the University of the Arts with a bachelor's degree in jazz instrumental performance. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. This approach yields better results than forcing a student to stick to a certain method exclusively. So I break down songs and theory in to increments so that they can be more easily digested over time. I find that this method of learning is extremely helpful in the retention of the knowledge the student learns.
