I believe listening is the key to learning. I listen to my students to discover what techniques are working best for them and which are their weakest then adapt my lessons to their needs. I also try to teach students how to listen to music, hear the empty spaces in songs that really give them their polish, and how to listen for other individual instruments to understand whem to accompany instruments and when to give them their own space. For beginning students, around ages 5-9, I start with easy songs, but also teach them how singing works. I like to teach technique, and help students improve in their singing. Once students have grasped the fundamentals of singing, I'll let them start looking at solo repertoire so they can practice for a recital performance. For intermediate and advanced students, I like to see what they are interested in to see how I can teach them, and be able to keep them more engaged. Read More

I began teaching private lessons and ensemble rehearsals in 1999, having since taught everything from elementary music and concert band to marching band and college-level drum corps. I love it all, as it's all about sharing the positive experience of performance and excellence with the next generation of musicians. In addition to teaching instrumental skills and technique, I also enjoy coaching music theory and composition, and often encourage students to bring in their own compositions to review or perform. I have a very fun yet effective teaching style. I try to help students reach their personal goals on the instrument. I also like to recognize each achievement no matter how small to show my students how their practicing and hard work has paid off. I want each student to progress at their own pace and mostly to show them what the world of music has to offer. Read More

My first student (back in 2004 ) was a friend and we started lessons....for fun! This fun became a way of living and one of the things that i really love to do. In 2005-2006 i started giving private lessons at first in teenagers or people around 20-25 years old. That was easy because most of the people over 20's the know what they want.So i wanted to try with much younger and much older....and i thing it went pretty much well! Read More

I absolutely love teaching!I see myself as being a gentle, yet firm instructor. I like to get to know my students and understand their goals. I love to ask my students questions. I am a very patient person and teacher. I listen to the students thoughts and concerns; I listen to what the student is telling me while they play. I will challenge my students, and push them to reach further, while not being inconsiderate of their happiness. Read More

Mostly unknown to the local jazz scene, word-of-mouth drew people to hear his unique sound at small bars in East Austin. Soon his shows were being described as "...crazy good and crazy crowded."(Joe Gross, Austin American-Statesman). In March of 2010 "Jeff's 1950s Miles Davis Tribute" drew a large crowd at One World Theatre with the help of media sponsor NPR affiliate KUT/KUTX, though competing with opening night of SXSW in nearby downtown Austin.
