For beginning students I start with an Alfred's beginning drum method to help with reading. We also start on the basic understanding of musical concepts such as tempo, dynamics and so on.  While reading is important I do also include learning by wrote or by ear.  A good ear is just as important as good reading skills for the complete musician.  I always include music that the student is interested in to keep the lessons fun and engaging! Jonathans early studies through high school were with New York, classical and jazz pianist, Kathleen Landis. Jonathan has performed at Steinway Hall, the Juilliard School and the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He recorded his first CD at age 14 which included Mozart, Gershwin, Chopin, Grieg and Khachaturian. Jonathan particularly loves the works of Alexander Scriabin and has performed for the Scriabin Society of America. He enjoys teaching piano to all ages and playing for private events. Read More

As a multi-instrumentalists, I use a cross disciplinary approach even when a student is only learning one instrument. I do make use of method books for beginners, and the specific book depends upon the instrument, but I have my own methods and materials which I utilize in my lessons. Building a repertoire is encouraged, and I use the material to assist in instructing in theory and musical communication. My teaching experience began in 2016, when I enrolled in a degree program in secondary education at Southern Connecticut State University. At Southern, I learned very much about human development, and teaching methods and strategies. I also gained over 120 hours of classroom observation experience.
