My students get to choose some of their repertoire and lesson content as it makes it more enjoyable for them. I do require all students to play scales as they provide an essential foundation for all that they will play. My first true teaching experience happened around the age of sixteen, which was by tutoring my siblings friends and preparing them for NYSSMA. I found this to be a truly enjoyable experience and realized that this was a passion that I wished to pursue in the future. From there, I enrolled in several music education courses when I attended Berklee College of Music. I volunteered at my arts high school for 2 years helping with all of the Jazz Band, AP Music Theory, and private instruction in multiple instruments. In 2009 I graduated from Cooperative Arts & Humanities Magnet High School focusing in Music. My teaching style relaxed yet firm and consistent week-to-week. I expect all my students to practice and highly encourage them to perform in a recital as often as they feel comfortable. I encourage the parents to oversee practicing during the week and give me feedback as often as necessary.
