For beginning students I like to begin with a combination of Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. I find Essential Elements to be useful for learning the fundamentals of playing the instrument and music theory. However, Suzuki offers the ability for students to quickly play solo repertoire. I also incorporate learning and understanding scales for the purpose of learning fingering patterns and intonation. I grew up with classical music playing violin since the age of 4 and then changed instrument to saxophone at the age of 12. I studied jazz and saxophone at The Rhytmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and The New School of Music in New York. I also play trumpet, guitar, bass, piano, drums, and more. I also write for symphony orchestra and produce electronic music. I create a personalized lesson plan for each and every student I teach, because not everyone learns the same way. I incorporate music and exercises from a variety of different books in a way that I think would best suit my student. I will often also have my students learn music that has a part for a second violin, so that I can accompany them. In addtion to teaching privately in my studio, both 'cello and piano for over 30 years now, I have also taught after school string classes, for all student levels. One unique project that occured was playing for a ribbon cutting ceremony for an adult care center where I featured my students who performed with me and a few of my colleagues.
