For beginning students just starting out method books like "Hal Leonard's Essential Elements" is very popular and useful or other similar method books that public schools use. In addition to working from the popular school method books and any band music I will assign different things for my students to work on to keep our lessons fun and engaging. Each student will receive instruction from me that will inspire them to practice and want to learn more and get better. Read More

I believe that students need to be taught to teach themselves. As a teacher, my role is to guide the student toward realizations with appropriate materials and information. However, the most beneficial learning occurs when the students feels they were an active participant in the discovery(ah-ha! moments). I can give students the answers, but I tend to use more leading questions to get them to figure out the solution on their own. Read More

Eventually we will move up to learning songs. As the student becomes more advanced, we will learn beats that are more challenging in a variety of styles, and gain independence and fluidity around the drums. We will learn rudiments and more finely tune their technique and learn songs that are more and more complex. For students at higher levels we can get into jazz drumming and rudimental percussion. No matter what, the lessons will be a great time and you can get better every week! Read More

Performing across the U.S. has been an incredibly rewarding and challenging experience as a musician, and I’ve had the opportunity to play sold-out shows in venues from the Hollywood Bowl, Lucas Oil Stadium, to Symphony Hall in Boston. My major allowed me to delve into many different styles of music such ranging from classical to popular folk music from South America.
