I have been taught guitar by ten different teachers and understand a wide variety of styles as a result. I am two semesters away from graduating William Paterson University with a Music Studies degree, primarily focused in music theory. Though I have spent many hours working very hard at my instrument, I consider myself primarily a songwriter and producer and spend much of my time writing songs for my band or engineering and producing albums for other artists. I have always had a love of teaching and for the intricacies of Vocal Technique. I have built a private studio on the foundations of traditional bel canto technique with a strong emphasis on the Italian School. I believe in consistent practice with scales, arpeggios and other exercises that help students build and strengthen their voices and navigate their registers. I take pride in finding new ways to teach proper fundamentals and habits in new students, that will ensure long-term success on their instrument, and allow them to explore whichever avenue in music they wish to pursue. It is important to know about your instrument to be able to properly use it. My students will not only begin with the basic fundamentals of singing, breathing techniques, and music theory; but they will also learn the anatomy of the voice and how the body allows the sound to be produced. Music is a vital part of how we process emotions as individuals and communities. I believe in meeting students where they are no matter their age or skill set to increase their ability to express themselves through music. I aim to provide a well-rounded approach taking into account musicianship skills (listening, reading, singing, and improvising) as well as technical bass skills (left and right hand technique and posture). My teaching experience started in 2011 where I started working for a private lesson music studio. There I taught students ranging from the ages 5-60 and taught piano and guitar. I also worked part-time as a music theory and keyboard tutor at a Community College. I met weekly with students who were struggling with these subjects.
