Instruments: Piano Trumpet French Horn
I am a fairly tough teacher: I expect my students to practice, regardless of their ability level. I believe firmly in scales, etudes and technique! I love watching my students figure out how these abstract skills translate into learning music!I use a few different method books for children, depending on theirlearning styles. For adults, I tailor my techniques to their interests and abilities, making it more interesting. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
Therefore, I will usually add duets to their repertoire as to show them a different aspect of playing violin. I also encourage students to find pieces they want to play, or maybe a tune (ex:Christmas music during the holidays) that they really want to work on. I just want my students to love what they are doing, appreciate the music, and most importantly have fun with it since that is the root of the passion! Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
For my beginning students, I have them start with KJOS Standards Of Excellence. Once they have began to learn the techniques to properly play, I will begin them with repitoire that I find suitable for them to play and also what they would like to learn so this way the students are learning what they want, which makes the music learning process even more enjoyable! By making a individual lesson plan it allows my students to be able to advance at their own pace and also have the students learn their instruments even better. Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion
I expect hard work from every student I teach. While I don't expect every week to be successful (We are human for goodness sake) as long as a student gives a true honest effort we can always make progress together. I always encourage questions or comments during or after the lesson. I want every student to leave my studio feeling confident they can get sufficient work done for our next lesson. Read More
Instruments: Guitar
It is very important to understand that music students are individuals and learn in many different learning styles. The first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out their music interest and why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Piccolo
Honestly, if you name it, I have some experience in playing it. I have competed in different states with both the wind ensemble and jazz band in high school and have held workshops with my college jazz orchestra mentoring saxophone students. I am a composer so I can not only teach how to play an instrument but also how to compose for the instrument and in general. I compose within many genres, from classical to ambient to jazz and hip hop as well as electronic styles. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I tend to use the Suzuki Method for my students. I find that it helps create a solid foundation for the student and includes repertoire that is familiar to many. In addition to the Suzuki Method, I like to use etude books, duet books, and sight-reading books for those who are learning how to read music. I also like to incorporate Music Theory for all ages to gain more knowledge of how music works. Read More
