My teaching style is very organic and personal. Because I feel music is more of an expression before it is a discipline, I am a strong believer in giving tools of discipline as they are needed, rather than forcing a student into a rigor just because it worked for a different student with a different personality. We are all so very unique in our expressions as human musicians that even the same note on the same instrument played by different fingers can change the tone and resonance of the note. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I like to create very clear imagery that builds over time. The voice is not something we can see or touch, so I often joke that singing is about learning Jedi mind tricks that help us achieve a healthy technique. I like to incorporate theory/musicianship and some piano into my lessons to create a well rounded understanding of singing as a musician. I like to use the music that each student loves, which allows them to learn while still keeping things fun and interesting. Read More

However, for those that are a little more outgoing, I first assess what level their at, and begin from there. For beginner students, I am a firm believe in mastering fundamentals but making them fun at the same time. There's no need for fundamentals to be monotonous and boring! For more experienced students, I like to find out what their goal is and create a development plan for them according to their individual goals. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments fuel students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

My teaching style is completely student oriented. Every student will be taught differently because they all have different needs. I make sure that each student has at least one goal for each lesson and I make sure to acknowledge their accomplishments. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students accomplish their singing goals! Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I teach in the bel canto style as I was taught, focusing on developing a greater capacity for breath control, relaxation of the tongue and jaw, good posture, and freedom of movement. However, I tailor every lesson to the student's needs and focus on addressing the vocal issues they face on a given day and in general. I develop a plan for the student each week, like learning a section of a piece or working on diction in a specific verse, but adapt this plan depending on how the student feels that day and what their input is.
