I taught the section every year for about 12 years before being hired as a full-time teacher and becoming the assistant director of the band. In college I began teaching drumlines over the summer for various high school programs. During that time is when I really began to fall in love with the teaching process and watching my students improve and grow as musicians. Shortly after I also began doing private guitar, rudimental percussion, and drum set lessons. During individual lessons, I applied various strategies and focused on personalized ways to help my students solve their performance issues. I exercised patience and looked for even small improvements to praise with verbal encouragement and rewards for younger students. I broke down students' difficulties by incorporating various speeds, articulations, dotted rhythm practice, and minimum motion. My method of teaching trumpet for begginers and advanced students is to first make certain the embouchure is correctly formed, the breathing is correct and the instrumentis held correctly. I'll have the student play for me to detect any areas of concern and consequently I generate lesson plans accordingly. I will introduce drills, etudes and solo pieces at the given time of apparent progress in the areas of concern. I will make the learning experience fun and interesting, however I will requirethe students diligience in accomplishing the goals of trumpet performance which are expressive and beautiful performances.
