My beginning students usually start with the Suzuki method. However, if a student is using a different book with their school music teacher, I always try to incorporate that book in my student's private lessons. In addition, I ask students what they are interested in playing, to give the student a sense of ownership and signifigance in their progress. I believe that studying music has value far beyond simply learning an instrument. I hope that my students are inspired by music, and really feel the freedom to treat it as a creative outlet. Additionally, practicing consistently teaches discipline. Even for beginners, it is better to practice for 10 minutes every day than four hours once a week. My methods depend heavily on the age of the student and the level of student I am working with. An example would be the beginner level. For beginning students, I first focus on helping them understand their range (i.e. bass, tenor, alto, soprano) and important fundamentals of singing (i.e. loose jaw, full use of our body as support for our voice, relaxed tongue, proper breath support with the diaphragm, expansion of the ribs, proper body posture, etc). .I am passionate about music and the transforming power it has in people's lives. I have Suzuki teacher training in Flute Book one from East Tennesse University in 1996. I have my Masters in Education from Lehigh University. Currently I am the Music Specialist for Lehigh University's Child Care Center, and I direct the Youth Choir at St. Theresa Parish in Hellertown. I perform with the Moravian College Collegium Musicum and sing with the Allentown Diocesan Choir.  I am currently Licensed to Teach MusikGarten and plan to hold a class this Fall for 3-5 year olds.
