After learning these rudiments, I will help the student identify these techniques in their favorite songs, which we will then learn to play together. I find it important to establish early on what motivates the student, and incorporate that into every lesson in some facet. Along with the lesson, I also make it a point to establish and encourage consistent practice routines that make practicing the instrument more rewarding and less monotonous. Therefore, I allow students to discover their own styles through exploration of an array of styles rather than insisting that they stick to one specific genre.
